Collioure holds a tremendous heritage.

Its opening towards the Mediterranean has always made of Collioure a coveted place. It has been the place of destination of many seafarers from Marseille, Rome and Greece so that it is now a rich archeological site.
In 673, Wamba a visigothic king settles in Collioure and gives it the name of “CAUCOLIBERIS” (Elne’s Harbor), thus ascertaining its function as a trade harbour.
As soon as 981 the Counts of Roussillon and the Kings of Majorque start fortifying Collioure which becomes between 1276 and 1344 the holiday home of the Majorquin Kings. All through the Thirteenth Century, numerous religious crusades pass across Collioure, as the Templars in 1207 (hence the legend of the Templar Knights’ treasure), the cistercians in 1242 and the Dominicans in 1280.
Later on, the discovery of America in the 15th Century, will bring a progressive decline to the activities of the harbour of Collioure.
From 1462 to 1493, Collioure is under French occupation, under the reign of Louis XI. In 1642, shortly after having escaped from the control of the Spanish, the Catalans are again occupied by French troops. It is at this time that Vauban, modifying the fortifications, gives Collioure its contemporary aspect.
In 1659, The Treaty of the Pyrenees makes of the Roussillon a French province.

A few centuries later, the colors of Collioure have inspired some of the world’s most famous painters like Matisse, Picasso or Derain but also public figures such as Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet and many others…
Our hotel is actually decorated according the names and colors of those painters.
